Album Review – The Buddy Jordan Project – Did Somebody Say Bass?
One of my favorite things about doing album reviews is discovering new music. Buddy Jordan was not a bassist I was familiar with prior to hearing “Did Somebody Say Bass?”, now I can’t stop listening to him. To showcase his exceptional skills, Jordan brings out all of his toys, showing that he is equally adept on piccolo bass, fretless bass, and acoustic-electric bass as he is on the electric bass. Throughout the album’s 12 tracks Jordan’s smooth, fluid basslines anchor the arrangements while maintaining a constant groove.
Jordan’s modern jazz style is truly an amalgamation of many of today’s top players. From the Clarkesque stylings of “Softly As In A Morning Sunrise”, to the Jaco like fretless finesse of “Fifth Impression” Jordan proves that he is a true master of his craft. For it’s polished jazz elegance and luscious bass tones I give it 7/10 stars.
