European bassist extraordinaire, Vincenzo Maurogiovanni’s has released his latest album, Tempus Fugit.  The soulful, expressive songs have an ethereal quality to them that make you want to sit back, relax and absorb the music. Meaning “Time Flees”, or more commonly “Time Flies” in Latin, it’s 9 tracks certainly seem to fly right by, leaving you wanting more.

Viz says that when he composes he doesn’t think in notes but in landscapes, and he has created a lush landscape here on Tempus Fugit.  The emphasis is clearly on the compositions, not just the bass playing.  Viz has a real knack of playing to the song, all the while laying down some tasty bass lines as he goes.  For it’s smooth compositions and impressive bass tracks.  7/ 10 stars.
